Artist Cathleen Shattuck

Photography is about being present. When we make an image, like the aperture, we are open and engaging in the now. With nature photography immediacy takes precedent. Whether you’ve waited minutes, hours or days for the shot, this may never happen the same way again. Show up for it with your eyes open or it’s gone. But the photographer is more than a mirror with a reflecting instinct, our consciousness imposes order, sentiment, and narrative. A balance between the provocation of the mind and the chaotic occurrences of the natural ‘other’ is what I strive to capture in this work.
